Designed to help children realize their potential

Objectives:-

The Future

We are planning to register as the West-Coast’s first Cluster foster home, with the blessing of the Department of Social Development, to be able to help another 6 children. Our focus will be on babies and toddlers between 0 and 3-years-old. We have extended our facilities to accommodate more children in need.

… another step up from our current “Safe-house” status !

  • To expand our current house of safety to be able to provide counselling, therapy, nutrition, love, and support for more children.
  • To work more closely with the Department of Social Development, Governing body of Badisa, the South African Police Service, as well as schools in our local area, identifying children in need and providing support to families who may find themselves in abusive and neglected situations. One of our Trustees is a qualified SAPS VEP Trauma Counsellor, who can assist in providing first aid and psychological support. This member is also a member of Badisa’s Governing body, servicing multiple towns in the West
  • Long Term Objectives would include having a fund that would assist these children to attend
  • To focus on the elderly and disabled members of society, those not receiving sufficient SASSA grants, in the provision of food parcels, clothing, bedding, and household
  • To become the first registered Cluster Foster Care Scheme home in the West-Coast (Western-Cape).

Our main active programs...

Foster Care Program:

Currently, we are fostering 7 children, who were previously in our Safety Care Program. The law prohibits more than 6 foster kids per household, unless registered as a Cluster Foster Care Scheme where 6 children are placed per separate house per house mother. An exception was made for the placement of our 7th child.

Safety Care Program:

We are recognized as a Safe-house for children by DSD (the Department of Social Development Western Cape) and Badisa.

Feeding Program:

Currently we are assisting multiple families with weekly food parcels from food we receive from Woolworths – Langebaan (Foodforward SA), focusing on families with children and families with elderly members.

Schooling:

Currently 9 children attend 4 different schools/kindergartens. We aim to provide the best schooling for our children by obtaining sponsorship’s for private schools.

Baby Projects:

Periodically we run these projects, and have to date supplied almost 200 families, with all baby products, e.g. milk, nappies, wet-wipes, baby food, clothing etc.

Clothing Bank Project:

The “Bank “has clothing for babies, toddlers, and all other sizes. Anyone in our community in need of clothing, benefit from this project.

Donations:

We receive other donations as well, i.e., furniture, household necessities, bedding etc. which are specifically assigned for situations where a home burns down and are also specifically dedicated to children in need.

Food Parcels...

Currently, our weekly waste pick-up on a Friday and Saturday is collected and taken to our storeroom at “For the Children” premises, where the needs of the children and the staff at the Safehouse/CFC are firstly taken care of.
Our safehouse is currently housing 9 children in foster care. The children’s every need is catered for, i.e., food, clothing, doctors, education, therapy etc. At the safehouse we have 3 permanent employees, of which 1 lives on the premises.
On Saturday afternoons, the excess waste is packed by a team of church volunteers into food parcels for families in need and delivered the same day. Currently, we supply multiple families. Depending on the quantity of waste received, more families can be assisted but due to the inconsistency of the quantities, we had to enforce the two- week alternating system to ensure more families are helped. We also had to add extra groceries to the Woolworths waste donation weekly, to make sure that families receive a full monthly or weekly parcel with all the necessities, sponsored by other organizations.
Recently Foodforward SA took charge of Woolworth’s waste and we had to apply as a beneficiary to Foodforward SA. We were successful and are now one of the 1850 approved beneficiary organizations that distribute either food parcels or provide cooked meals.
Following are some pictures taken during lockdown where we combined Woolworths waste with additional food items bought with funding supplied by CEM Langebaan (Christ Encounter Ministries).
